Preclinical studies demonstrate that dexrazoxane (Savene®) alone is effective in the treatment of anthracycline extravasations.
In a mouse model of anthracycline extravasation it was shown that[5][12][13]:
- Only dexrazoxane (Savene®) protects against tissue injury
- Both DMSO and hydrocortisone are ineffective
- DMSO may even interfere with the efficacy of dexrazoxane (Savene®)
Effect of dexrazoxane (Savene®), DMSO and hydrocortisone in preventing soft tissue injury following s.c. administration of daunorubicin. Reproduced with permission[5]
